Exploring Switzerland by train: 30 complete itineraries, from 2 to 8 days

Managing your time helps a lot and there are some types of itineraries. For example, the round trip. In this case you leave the city, visit another city on the same day and return the same day.

Go from Milan to Bellinzona, take the train with the Gotthard Panorama Express route to Fluelen and by boat to Lucerne. After two nights, head to Chur and take a train on the Bernina Express route to Tirano, then return to Milan.

3 days

Take the Gotthard Panorama Express route to Lucerne. Then head to Lucerne by boat and after 2 nights, return to Bern. On the third day, head to Chur and continue to Milan.

4 days

Depart Milan with the Gotthard Panorama Express and take a boat to Lucerne. After two nights, travel back to Bern, the next day head to St. Moriz and finally take a train to Milan.

Two bases: Lucerne and Interlaken

4 days

Stay in Lucerne for 2 days and the next day do the circuit from Rigi to Bern. Then go to Interlaken. On the fourth day, the Top of Europe circuit continues.

Two bases: Montreux or Lausanne plus Zermatt

4 days

Spend 2 days in Montreux, the second day take a return trip to Bern. In the third go to Zermatt and exit in Spiez, continuing until Visp. After two nights, visit the glacier and gonergrat paradise.

5 days

After two nights in Montreux, take the chocolate train. On the third day, use the Bern day trip. In the fourth, go up to zermatt, go down to spiez. And on the fifth day, do the Gonergrat and Glacier Paradise.

Two bases: Zurich and Zermatt

4 days

Pass through Liechtenstein

4 days

Two nights in Lucerne and a day trip to Bern. Then go to the pit stop and sleep there. Then take the Bernina Express to Lugano.

5 days

Two nights in Lucerne and a day trip to Bern. Then head to Liechtenstein. Sleep in chur and then take the bernina express to lugano. Spend the remaining days there.

5 days

After a night in Zurich, make a stop in Vaduz. Sleep in chur and then take the glacier express to zermatt. After 2 nights, reach Gonergrat and at the end go up to Glacier Paradise. Return to Bern in the afternoon.

Return to Switzerland

7 days

Spend 2 nights in Montreux or Lausanne, on the third day use the Golden Pass Line route to Interlaken. On the fourth day you will visit the top of Europe and on the fifth you will make a stop in Bern. Then go to Lucerne and stay 2 nights. On the seventh day head to Lugano.

7 days

Stay one night in Zurich and then go to Liechtenstein. Sleep in chur and on day 3 take the glacier express to zermatt. After two nights, go up to Gonergrat and the other to Glacier Paradise. Then get off at Montreux. The remaining nights will be spent in this destination and you will have to make the return trip to Bern.

8 days

Spend a night in Zurich and then head to Montreux with a stop in Bern. After two nights head to Lucerne. Stay two nights and depart for St. Moris and stay 2 nights. On the eighth day, head to Milan.

8 days

After a night in Zurich, head to Chur and stop in Vaduz. Sleep in chur and then go to zermatt. Stay 2 days and go up to the gonergrat. On another, head to Glacier Paradise, and then down to Montreux, where you'll stay 2 days. Then depart for Lucerne and make a stop in Bern. Finally, continue towards Lugano.
